SUPPORT WORKER – WESTBOURNE

£8.77 per hour

Our client operates a lovely home situated in the Westbourne area and is a Residential Service Provision for up to nine clients.

Although not exclusively an Autism/Asperger’s service, this is mainly the client group for whom this home in Westbourne specialises in providing support and oversight.

They are typically a younger group of residents and the length of their stay is influenced by ongoing progress revues of their needs and wishes, along with a high level of input from their social workers and/or other support agencies, with whom they work very closely.

All clients are individual and therefore a person-centered support approach to assist them develop confidence and skills in order reach their goals towards becoming more independent is provided.

Autism & Asperger’s is a quite recent development from the historic client base of our client, the service is still developing and improving. All the team there have a high level of input in shaping the future of the service and feeding back any input from those clients to whom they are key worker, as well as always actively seeking feedback.

Our client has an excellent level of staff retention, envied by many similar services and are currently seeking a Support Worker to join their team member to replace one who will be returning to university for further study after working with them for 3 years. The role will be based at the home in Westbourne although staff are required to work at any of our services when necessary.

We are looking for an active and confident individual with some experience of ‘getting the best out of people’, seeing possibilities and ‘thinking outside the box’ when looking for solutions to meet clients’ needs. An organised approach to working, both administration, residents’ records and general paperwork is needed, as is the ability to work without supervision (after initial period).

Some basic cooking skills would be beneficial and a driving licence essential. A new team member with their own car would be beneficial if they were willing to use it in relation to their work (any initial cost to insurance to be paid by the employer as well as mileage allowance). They do have a minibus which can be used, subject to driver having appropriate driving licence.

In looking for their ideal candidate, relevant qualifications would be beneficial, however, personality, motivation and enthusiasm to be considered of up most importance.

An induction period will be undertaken, across all of our services and client group followed by an equal period of supervised work, although this can be shortened or extended at the discretion of the manager, following input from the new recruit.

Further training will be provided, both compulsory basic training such as food hygiene, health & safety and safeguarding, also NVQ training will be offered.
