Paralegal / Fee Earner

Dorchester, Dorset

£25k – £30k, DOE

We have an excellent opportunity for a Private Client Paralegal / Fee Earner to join our well established client based in Dorchester.

The ideal candidate will be either a qualified, part qualified or non-qualified fee earner, or a Paralegal who is highly competent and who has been working towards becoming a fee earner. They will have a good working knowledge of a broad range of Private Client work. The successful candidate will have either managed their own caseload as a stand-alone fee earner or will have some experience of fee earning in a Paralegal capacity whilst supporting a fee earner in managing their case load.

Key responsibilities are:
o Manage client interaction effectively and professionally; over the phone, face to face and via correspondence;
o Ensuring appropriate hours recorded and billed;
o Assisting in the timely transactions and the effect of financial controls as directed and in accordance with departmental procedures including timely and effective management of monthly Aged Debtors report;
o Ensuring all file records are kept current and case management procedures are maintained effectively (includes file closing);
o Obtaining funds on account as directed;
o Collecting outstanding disbursements in a timely manner as directed;
o Rendering timely interim bills (as appropriate) as directed;
o Monitoring work in progress and ensuring client kept informed accordingly as directed;
o Ensuring that the highest level of professional standards and client care are maintained;
o Maintaining an effective diary system in liaison with support staff;
o Ensuring conducive working relationships with clients, colleagues and other associated third parties;
o Ensuring that any work/matter related issues that may detrimentally affect the Firm, are brought to the immediate attention of the head of department;
o Maximising potential cross selling opportunities.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills required
* Appropriate currency of knowledge in the relevant area(s) of law and/or appropriate qualification and/or relevant experience;
* High standard of written and spoken English;
* Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel as required for the role);
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as working on own initiative;
* Good organisational and communication skills;
* Adaptability and flexibility;
* Excellent organisation and time management skills;
* A high regard for confidentiality.
